ONE CELEBRATION FOLLOWS ANOTHER: ON FRIDAY, OCTOBER 22, BRANE CELEBRATES CHRISTOPHE CAPDEVILLE’S 20 YEARS WITH BRANE DURING THE ‘GERBAUDE’!

Christophe Capdeville joined Brane twenty years ago! First as an intern. Now he’s the operations director!

Universally appreciated for his professionalism, his sense of duty, honesty and integrity, and his interpersonal skills, Christophe Capdevile is Henri Lurton’s irreplaceable right-hand man. Henri and his colleagues paid him homage at the harvest luncheon last Friday. He received a magnificent present from Isabelle Lurton, Henri’s wife, and was given a medal (made of chocolate!) as a friendly gesture from the entire team.

After dessert, a comical video montage retracing Christophe’s career at Brane was presented by Maria Martinez, Charles de Ravinel and Véronique Garcia, who went into the field to collect anecdotes and memories (fond and not so fond!) from ‘Cricket’s’ beginnings, and some comments from his closest colleagues.

It was a moving moment for everyone and a big surprise for Christophe, of course, who doesn’t like praise or being put in the spotlight! Ever discreet, he significantly contributed to Brane’s revival.

喜事连连:10月22日周五,在庆祝收获节日里布莱恩祝贺生产开发部经理克里斯托弗•卡普德维尔 (Christophe CAPDEVILLE)在布莱恩工作20周年纪念!

20年…从克里斯托弗•卡普德维尔加入布莱恩至今已经20年了!从实习生开始到今天的生产开发部经理!他的职业精神为众人所敬佩,他勤奋,诚实,精益求精和平易近人,是亨利•勒顿不可替代的左右臂膀。在上周五庆祝收获的午餐会上,克里斯托弗受到亨利和其他同事的祝贺,并收到亨利太太伊莎贝尔•勒顿亲手赠送的一份厚礼和工作荣誉奖章(巧克力制作的!),这也是全体同事的祝福。

甜点之后,一部由玛利亚,查理和维多尼克制作的关于克里斯托弗在布莱恩的幽默片精彩上映,里面讲述了许多实地收集的关于克里斯托弗从开始工作到现在的若干回忆和小故事(好坏皆有),还有和他最熟悉的几位同事对他的赞赏。

这是令人感动的一刻,尤其对不喜欢受夸奖,不爱出风头的克里斯托弗来说是个特大惊喜。尽管他对布莱恩的革新做出了重大贡献,他一直是如此低调。

Une fois encore, il fallait trouver une idée amusante pour notre soirée annuelle de fin de vendanges. La Chine est à la mode, tout le monde en parle, tout le monde s'y rend...Pourquoi ne pas amener la Chine à Brane? Ce fut chose faite, grâce aux célèbres frères Shan du 'Bonheur du Palais' et à Oliver Pechstein de 'In Vino Events', créateur, organisateur et animateur d'une formidable soirée de jeux, paris et magie pour nos amis négociants et courtiers. En cuisine, Andy et Tommy Shan et leur équipe ont élaboré pour nous des plats savoureux et originaux pour le plus grand plaisir de tous. Une soirée mémorable où chacun a pu dépenser ses jetons et ses billets sans compter car, à Brane, à tous les coups on gagne!

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 21: BRANE BECOMES A CHINESE GAMBLING HOUSE FOR OUR HARVEST PARTY

Once again, we needed to find a fun idea for our annual harvest party. China is fashionable. Everyone’s talking about it. Everyone’s going there. So why not bring China to Brane? That’s just what we did, thanks to the famous Shan brothers from ‘Le Bonheur du Palais’ and Oliver Pechstein from ‘In Vino Events,’ creator, organizer and host of a wonderful game night, betting and magic for our merchant and broker friends. In the kitchen, Andy and Tommy Shan and their team made original and delicious dishes for everyone’s utmost pleasure. It was a memorable evening where everyone got to spend their tokens and bills freely because at Brane, you always win!

10月21日星期四 : 为庆祝葡萄采摘结束举办的晚宴,布莱恩成了中国赌场

又到了需要给葡萄采摘结束年度晚宴想个有趣点子的时候。现在中国很流行,大家都在谈论,大家都到中国去......为什么不把中国引入布莱恩?感谢Bonheur du Palais(法国波尔多著名中餐馆)的Shan兄弟和In Vino Events的Oliver Pechstein,我们做到了这一点。Oliver是晚会创作者、组织者、主持人,为酒商和经纪人呈现了一场精彩的游戏、博彩、魔术晚会。在烹调方面,Shan兄弟Andy、Tommy和他们的团队为我们精心制作了美味而独特的佳肴。这是一个难忘的夜晚,每个人都大方下注、消费,因为在布莱恩,怎么都不会亏本的!

TROPHEE BRANE CANTENAC AU GOLF DE MARGAUX: ENCORE UNE BELLE JOURNEE DE SPORT POUR TOUTE NOTRE EQUIPE !

Nous saluons la victoire de Lionel Vagnot, Emmanuel Rossier et Franck Donet, l'équipe gagnante en Résultat Net Cumulé. ET celle de Sébastien Dumons, Frédéric Champagne, et Philippe Drai, l'équipe gagnante en Brut Cumulé. Et bien entendu, comme chaque année, nous remercions chaleureusement l'équipe de Brane qui s'est bien défendue.

We would like to congratulate Lionel Vagnot, Emmanuel Rossier and Franck Donet, the winning Cumulative Net Score team. And, of course, like every year, we want to warmly thank the Brane team, which defended itself so well.

In Cumulative Net Score, François Brun, Anne Marie Valette and Thomas Conroy were in second position.

Special thanks to Jean Marc, Anne-Marie (Black and Gold captain!) and Clément Vallet, who came as a family to defend Brane’s colors, depite the ‘Joanne’ cup at Golf Bordelais, in which they are very active members!

HARVEST 2010 REPORT BY HENRI LURTON

A great vintage follows in the wake of 2009...and yet it is much different!

 

  • One of the keys, and a significant one at that, to this new vintage’s success dates back to the fall of 2009, as the month of November was exceptionally rainy. After 25 days of rainfall totaling over 200 mm, the water tables were completely refilled. They would then allow the vineyards to tolerate an extremely dry summer.

 

  • After a cold winter, the budbreak was a bit late (very first days of April). The summer weather that followed allowed the vines to grow rapidly. The first flowers were visible from May 25 on the early parts but the temperatures dropped and full bloom was moved back to June 6. The early Merlot plots suffered from this climate and experienced millerandage which, while severe on some stocks, affected only a limited number on these plots. The mostly dry spring finished with very strong rain on June 15 and 16. In fact, the precipitation, which reached 50 mm, did not greatly benefit the soil, as most of it had run off.

 

  • July was first hot and dry and then, like the first two weeks of August, was cooler than usual, especially at night. For this reason, veraison was slow in early August. The Cabernet Francs were the latest to undergo veraison. Late August and early September were hot, still with cool nights, which caused very rapid ripening. Sugar and phenolic compound potential was at its peak. The weather then remained nice but cool and dry.

 

  • The Merlot harvest started on September 27, i.e. 5 days after 2009. The berries, which were slightly smaller than average, had exceptionally high levels of sugar (14 to 15° potential alcohol) and phenolic compounds and higher acidity than usual for a great vintage.

 

  • The Merlot musts, which were highly aromatic with a rapidly intense color, were vinified using the traditional process and did not pose particular problems to the winemaker despite the very high sugar potential. Vatting finished during this period for the best Merlots. The wines are extremely rich.

 

  • Harvesting of Cabernet Sauvignons started on October 6 and ended on October 14. The health situation was perfect from the start to end of the harvest and harvesting took place under excellent conditions. The first finished vats are rich and powerful with average alcohol contents of 13 and unusual TPIs. Their acidity is more pronounced than the Merlots, but this sensation should reverse after malolactic fermentation, Cabernets having more malic acid and less tartaric acid.

 

  • Logically, as their veraison occurred later, the Cabernet Francs were the last to ripen. We harvested them on October 13. The musts are very aromatic, and the wines will surely be powerful and rich (13.5°).

 

 

  

Harvesting choices were particularly easy this year, with the various plots ripening one after another without sudden peaks. Yields should be close to 40 hl/ha.

 

Grape receiving had been re-designed in 2007 when we adopted the Viniclean system. This year, however, we wanted to completely change it in order to benefit from the technological advantages of optical sorting.

 

In order to preserve cluster integrity as much as possible, and to treat the grapes as quickly as possible after the harvest, we abandoned the use of baskets and instead opted for a new harvest transporting machine using small-capacity bins equipped with an air suspension and vibration emptying system. The grapes are checked on a first manual sorting table. After they are de-stemmed, they are moved to a vibrating optical sorting table, before they are crushed and transferred to vats.

 

This year, the Merlots were complicated to sort due to their millerandage. De-stemming was particularly difficult, but after 1 to 2 days of adjusting with young vines, the sorting system proved to be fully effective on this vintage. Green items, and shot, dry and damaged berries were removed by the sorting system, which performed extremely well.

 

The 2010 vintage will have been fairly easy to manage: treatments, ploughing and trimming were reduced to their bare minimum (our organic plots clearly posed no particular problem). The climate that alternated between hot and cold, with cool nights and especially an unusually long dry period, will produce particularly powerful, colorful and tannic wines. A vintage that’s sure to be a subject of conversation for years to come…

THIS EVENING MARKS THE END OF THE HARVEST, UNDER THE SUN AND WITH SMILES ON OUR FACES!

As this article is being written, the last bins are being brought into the vat-room and our harvesters are preparing to take the bus back to Lormont… The harvest is ending in good spirits, and the past three weeks have been almost perfect. Christophe Capdeville, our operations director, is thrilled by the vintage’s quality. The vats that were tasted yesterday in the presence of our specialized oenologist, Eric Boissennot, are highly promising. They show signs of richness, power and an excellent balance thanks to their surprising acidity. The tannin indices are higher than last year which already set a record! The color of the musts is magnificent. The TPI (total polyphenol index) is 10% higher than in 2009! The Cabernet Sauvignons, which we just finished bringing in, are already dense and powerful and, like last year, show great promise.

For its first year in use, the optical sorting machine was ideal for removing shot and dried berries (very dry summer). It was a perfect year to test its performance and we were extremely satisfied since the need for precise sorting was pressing.

In the cellar, we bring the vats up 2 and a half times every day and undertake frequent délestages (rack and return technique) for the finest vats, in order to give as much color and concentration as possible to the musts, which are already highly colorful and aromatic.

We vatted our young Carmenères that were planted in 2007. This year, we have three special barrels from the Baron cooperage, where alcoholic fermentation takes place and will malolactic fermentation will take place (entire vinification process in wood). The very first vats of Merlot will join them in the next few days and those of Cabernet in a few weeks.

So there you are…now all we have to do is put away our tractors, store away our shining bins, clean and disassemble the harvest receiving area until next year, then let time do its work...

今晚布莱恩在阳光和笑容中结束了采摘工作!

我们写这段文字的时候,最后几箱葡萄被运送到了酿造车间,我们的采摘工人们也开始登上回陆尔蒙的公共汽车… 为期三周的采摘工作在很好的气氛中圆满结束,一切都接近完美。生产开发部经理克里斯托弗•卡普德维尔 Christophe Capdeville 对本年份的品质深表欣慰。我们的首席酿酒师Eric Boissennot参与了昨天进行的原汁品尝,大家一致认为这应是很好的年份,丰富,强劲,非常平衡,酸度饱满。去年的单宁指数已创历史纪录,而今年的单宁指数比去年还要高!生葡萄汁的色泽极佳!IPT总多酚指数比2009同比高10%。和去年一样,刚刚采摘的赤霞珠已经体现浓厚强劲的特征,给我们带来无限期望。

电子光学葡萄分拣机今年首次使用就发挥了极佳的作用,几无遗漏地剔除了未熟果和枯萎果(今夏干燥)。今年正是个测试该机器性能的好时机,结果令我们很满意,因为精密的分拣是高品质的前提保证。

在酿造车间里,每个酿造罐每天都经过两次半翻腾,最好的葡萄原汁更是经过频繁的翻腾喷淋,以获取最好的颜色和葡萄汁的浓度,尽管葡萄汁的颜色已经很好,也很芬芳。

2007年种植的年青的加荷莫奈葡萄已经装入橡木桶。今年我们从男爵橡木桶厂订制了三个特殊的橡木桶,专用于酒精发酵和乳酸发酵(全程木酿造)。最先采摘的美乐葡萄几天后开始这一过程,赤霞珠葡萄几周后再开始。

好了...现在剩下的工作就是开回我们的拖拉机,收起焕然如新的背篓,拆卸清理采摘运输设备区域,为明年做好准备,接下来,就是让时间来继续工作了...

VISITE D'UNE DELEGATION DE HAUT FONCTIONNAIRES THAILANDAIS, EN VOYAGE AVEC LEUR MINISTERE DE L'AGRICULTURE.

Henri Lurton recevait aujourd'hui une délégation du Ministère de l'Agriculture Thailandais en visite en France, et plus particulièrement en voyage d'étude avec le groupe pharmaceutique Mérial (Sanofi Aventis). Sur la recommandation de California Wines, importateur en Thailande, le groupe conduit par l'ancien ministre de l'agriculture et des coopératives, Monsieur Somsak Prisananuntagul, s'est rendu à  Brane ce matin, accompagné par Xavier Germond de CVBG, pour y découvrir le chai et bien sûr, la nouvelle machine de tri optique qui les a beaucoup intrigués.

VISIT FROM A DELEGATION OF SENIOR OFFICIALS FROM THAILAND, TRAVELING WITH THEIR MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE

Today Henri Lurton welcomed a delegation from the Thai Ministry of Agriculture that was visiting France, more specifically for research purposes with the Mérial pharmaceutical group (Sanofi Aventis). On the recommendation of California Wines, an importer in Thailand, the group, which was led by the former minister of agriculture and cooperatives, Mr. Somsak Prisananuntagul, visited Brane this morning, accompanied by Xavier Germond from CVBG, to discover the cellar and, of course, the new optical sorting machine, which fascinated them.

They were served a lunch organized by Lacoste with three great Brane vintages after a tasting of Brane and Baron de Brane 2009, 2008 and 2007.

泰国高官代表团和其农业部长一行的拜访

今天,亨利•勒顿接待了泰国农业部代表团一行,代表团此次来法国拜访主要是和Mérial(Sanofi Aventis)制药集团来参观学习。在泰国进口商California Wines的建议下,该集团在前农业部长和合作伙伴Somsak Prisananuntagul先生等带领下,由CVBG 集团的Xavier Germond陪同,于今晨拜访了布莱恩,参观酒库,当然还有令他们十分惊讶的新电子光学葡萄分拣机。

午餐由Lacoste组织,席间饮用了布莱恩三个年份酒,品酒会上所用的酒为2009、2008及2007年份布莱恩和布莱恩男爵。

Vendredi 24 septembre, Henri Lurton recevait Tom Marquardt, journaliste indépendant de Washington, DC qu'il avait rencontré lors de son dernier séjour dans la capitale américaine l'an dernier, ainsi que son épouse et un couple d'amis, tous en vacances...vinicoles! Très impressionné par la nouvelle machine à tri optique, Tom a longuement examiné son fonctionnement,  posé de très nombreuses questions et pris de copieuses notes.

On Friday 24 September, Henri Lurton welcomed Tom Marquardt, an independent journalist from Washington, DC, whom he had met during his last visit to the American capital last year, as well as his wife and a couple of friends, all on a wine holiday! Highly impressed by the new optical sorting machine, Tom explored how it works, asked many questions and took thorough notes.
