THE GRANDS CRUS BROKERAGE HOUSE DINES AT BRANE!

On the eve of the futures launch at Hangar 14, on Tuesday March 24, Henri Lurton and the Brane team welcomed the entire ‘Les Grands Crus’ Brokerage House for a visit, a comprehensive tour of the property and a lovely vertical tasting of Château Brane-Cantenac and Baron, from 2002 to 2008, and a few old vintages for the dinner, such as the 1996 and 1986.

It was a friendly and successful evening that enabled us to get to know Valentin Lillet and the members of the LGC house even better. But most importantly, it was a more personal opportunity for Henri Lurton to present his wines and share his philosophy, his plans and his hopes for Brane!

The conversations were pleasant and lively and we all took great delight in speaking about wine…and about the future of the 2008 vintage! Our guests are invited to share any of their comments on this blog…

LAVINIA BARCELONA, MADRID AND PARIS TASTE THE 2006 WINES!

Once again, the vitality of Lavinia’s team impressed us…

Three first-rate 2006 tastings were organized in early March to showcase this highly classical and promising vintage. The fans that were invited to these three extremely qualitative events were won over by this great wine, which surely has good aging capacity. It was an initiative that was enjoyed by everyone in attendance.

BRANE CANTENAC FEATURED ON ‘WOR’ RADIO IN NEW YORK IN MIKE COLAMECO’S FAMOUS ‘FOOD TALK’

During her visit to the United States in October 2008, Corinne Conroy was the privileged guest of Mike Colameco, a big fan of Bordeaux wines and of Brane in particular, to speak about the 2008 vintage. This appearance has become an almost annual event…. During the interview, Mike Colameco also alluded to the excellent tasting run by Henri Lurton at Union Square Wine and Liquors in the spring of the same year. He evoked the various samples of wines that were taken from barrels that had been heated differently and that used different origins of wood and spoke of the influence that wood has on fine wines! He'd been extremely interested in and impressed by the tasting!

SOIREE DES CRUS CLASSES DE MARGAUX A BRANE

‘CRUS CLASSES DE MARGAUX’ EVENING AT BRANE

Yesterday, Henri and Isabelle Lurton received the members of the ‘Crus Classés de Margaux’ group for a tasting of their ‘2008 favorites,’ followed by a gastronomic dinner and a superb vertical tasting of Brane.

In the morning, and according to tradition, each property had offered one of its favorite vintage blends for tasting or a sneak preview of the blend that would be presented as futures in a few weeks…

The 2008 is promising to be rich and highly aromatic and offer an excellent structure. For some, it evokes the 1986.

With the dinner orchestrated by Monblanc, Henri Lurton had chosen a few superb gems… Brane-Cantenac 1995, 1989, 1986, 1983, 1966 and 1959... The final big surprise was the 1928, for the utter delight of the guests! Some of them had never tasted such an old wine…

The people sitting at our table were thrilled to have the exceptional opportunity to taste these magnificent wines. John Kolasa, from Château Rauzan-Ségla, admired the pre-1980s vintages, both for their elegance and for their excellent freshness. It's true that the 59 tickled the taste buds with surprising menthol aromas! It didn’t at all resemble a 50-year-old wine… Jacques Pelissier from Château Giscours and Château du Tertre, who shared his memories from Margaux, fittingly remarked that ‘It’s rare to be able to taste 7 Brane vintages with people from the region’… And his right-hand man, Didier Foret, added, ‘Especially for a vertical tasting with a dinner’…

As time passed, people’s tongues loosened up and a variety of topical subjects were addressed…it goes without saying that article 24 was the subject of much conversation, not to mention Robert Parker and his influence on the entire region…

Gonzague Lurton, from Durfort-Vivens, thanked his brother for this exceptional evening and Henri paid homage to their father Lucien who had contributed the wines and had made most of them.

From now on, Jean-Luc Zuger, from Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry, will take on the group’s leadership, replacing Jean-Pierre Hugon, who has retired. As John Kolasa suggested, it would be a good idea to ‘move' the group to other regions (on the Right Bank in Canon for example) or to other countries, and even possibly to invite foreign wine-makers. This rich idea would reinforce the opinion that Bordeaux isn’t that self-centered!

AN ADMIRABLE 90 IN THE WINE SPECTATOR (USA) FOR OUR BRANE 2006

Brane continues to meet with good news… Another positive critique for this rather difficult vintage! It’s something to be proud of…

'Displays plum jam and currant bush on the nose. Full-bodied, with a beautiful core of fruit and velvety tannins The finish is long and beautiful. This is carefully crafted! Best after 2013' James Suckling

' Au nez, confiture de prune et buisson de cassis. Bien en chair, avec un milieu de bouche superbement fruité et des tannins veloutés. La finale est longue et belle. C'est un vin fait avec beaucoup de soin! Meilleur après 2013. ' James Suckling

ROBERT PARKER DONNE UN 92 AU BRANE 2006!

Wine Advocate # 181 Feb 2009 Robert Parker 92 Drink: 2012 - 2025 $29-$55 (50)

I can’t say enough about how beautifully classic, racy, and gracious the wines of Brane Cantenac have become over the last decade. The stunningly elegant 2006 exhibits a sweet, subtle smoke note intermixed with creme de cassis in its medium-bodied style with superb nobility, concentration, and sweet tannin. Possessing a complex, luscious personality with strikingly beautiful, velvety tannins, it should be at its finest between 2012-2025+.
